Support for Schools

ACE Schools Inclusion Support Outreach Service

Outline

As part of ACE school’s strategic support to the city, ACE are now offering the expertise and experience of our staff to support inclusion across Plymouth. The primary aim of this piece of work is to support the strategic goal for the city as set out in the place-based plan:

‘Increase inclusion across all schools and the community – every child included 100% of their time in Plymouth schools’

'Inclusion is broader than making provision for any single group. It was agreed that when inclusion works effectively, in response to stakeholder considered and joined-up practice and policy, in its simplest terms, inclusion means:

  • 100% of children learning and having their needs met in high quality education 100% of the time.
  • Every Child, Every lesson, Every day, Every week.
  • Inclusion is: aspiration, progression and success for ALL.'

This 3-point definition has been agreed by all key stakeholders across the city.

'The truly included child:

  • Attends regular classroom lessons with appropriate provision
  • Participates in all activities offered to other students
  • Is accepted by the rest of the school community
  • Achieves in all learning domains
  • Has a strong sense of belongingness and feels happy to be part of the school community'

The ACE Schools Inclusion Outreach Service offer can be tailored to the needs of each school.  Some examples of what support ACE could provide are listed in the table below.

The list is not exhaustive, and we will work with schools on bespoke packages to meet their needs and can support them in:

  • Developing a graduated response
  • Ensuring that all schools have a robust inclusive offer with policies, practice and procedures to support
  • Ensuring that underlying SEN needs are identified and addressed
  • Developing a rich Alternative Provision offer based in schools and managed by schools
  • Developing a CPD offer for staff which is based on the needs of the staff and their ability to meet the needs of the pupils in their schools
  • Developing a coordinated offer that addresses some of the child’s underlying issues (ACEs) through Trauma Informed Practice
